I like the fact that it’s the “2nd Largest” hydrant
I threw that in at the last second actually! Sometimes stuff likes that will hit me as I’m drawing.
It does beg the question though…is it housing a nuclear missile or not?
I’m….not at liberty to say.
I too like the fact that this is the second largest. But I do question where is the first, and what purpose would a fire hydrant need to be that large? I guess it being in a desert, if there was a fire, it would be hard pressed to find water. In that case, this does seem practical. I suppose I’ve just answered my own question. ~Walks off mumbling to self~
There’s also this American (typically southwestern, hence the backdrop) tradition of what we call the “tourist trap” which often take the form of “world’s largest [item that isn’t usually large],” so it’s kind of playing off that–which may not be immediately obvious to non-American readers.
I vaguely remember an episode of The Simpsons where there is a giant toilet (the one where Grandpa’s kidneys pop). I will not be fooled. When I visit the U.S. again, I refuse to be sucked into your scheming, over-sized, trap. Unless it’s an over-sized bowl of carbonara. I may have to visit that. Mostly out of respect *and greed*.
You get a lot of that in Australia as well, the sides of the major roads there are littered with “The World’s Largest …”.
